Steel pipes, what’s the difference?

At Interpipe Inc – Canada, we not only like to support our customers from the beginning of their projects, but we also like to educate them to make sure they make the most appropriate choice for their needs, please read below the definition of most common pipes used for deep foundations/construction projects. We carry them all with a focus on ERW, contact us for more info!

A seamless pipe is a tube that does not have any welding seam. Seamless pipes are derived from solid steel that is in sheet or bar form and is formed into a solid round shape known as “billets” which are then heated and cast over a form such as a piercing rod to create a hollow tube or shell.

ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipes are welded longitudinally, manufactured from Strip / Coil and can be manufactured up to 24” OD. ERW pipe cold formed from a ribbon of steel pulled through a series of rollers and formed into a tube which is fused through an electric charge.

A spiral-welded pipe is produced from coils of steel that are unwound and flattened. The flattened strip is formed by angled rollers into a cylinder of the desired diameter. Interior and exterior SAW seal the spiral seam.
